Description

Postdoctoral fellow position available in the Robinson lab for a highly motivated recent or soon to be graduate interested in obtaining postdoctoral training in basic/translational research in epithelial cell biology and cancer biology. The postdoctoral fellow will be integrated in project(s) involved in understanding how cells respond to oxidative stress and how this oxidative-stress response pathways influence mucosal restitution. Additional projects include defining the mechanisms by which the b-galactoside binding lectins, termed galectins, initiate epithelial repair in metazoans.

Dr. Robinson is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at Emory University in Atlanta and is funded by the American Cancer Society. His lab focuses on integrating Drosophila and murine model organisms and defining conserved pathways in which disease-related genes influence epithelia and epithelial-cell biology. During your training you should expect exposure to advanced techniques in cell biology including 3D-organoid culture, single-cell RNA-sequencing, advanced techniques in microscopy and Drosophila and murine genetics, among others.

You will be expected to design, conduct, and evaluate research on this topic while receiving advanced training from your Principal Investigator. You will be encouraged to further develop your research independence and professional skills. These skills include writing scientific papers, giving talks at national meetings and applying for fellowship and eventual grant applications. You will also have the opportunity to mentor the research of undergraduates and graduate students, and if interested give one or more lectures in a course designed for undergraduates or graduate students. The initial appointment is for one year, and renewal expected if progress is satisfactory and funds are available. Appointments cannot exceed five years.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Ph.D. in Cell Biology, Genetics or Biochemistry or related field with one or more first-author peer-reviewed papers. Experience with murine or Drosophila model organisms, molecular biology techniques, and microscopy is a plus but not required. Strong communication and writing skills.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A doctoral degree or equivalent (Ph.D., M.D., ScD., D.V.M., DDS etc) in an appropriate field. Excellent scientific writing ability and strong oral communication skills. The ability to work effectively and collegially with colleagues. Additional qualifications as specified by the Principal Investigator.
