Clinical Technician II in Pathology Record Control in Durham. This is not a phlebotomy position.
Monday - Friday, 9:00 a.m. - 5:30 p.m.
This position is eligible for a $2,500 sign-on bonus.
General Description
Responsible for the intake of patient material coming from other institutions to be reviewed by our Pathology Department. Perform duties associated with working in the Pathology Record Control office.
Primary duties
· Includes registering patients if not already in the Duke system.
· Gathering the information necessary for that process
· Accessioning the material and assigning a unique case number using the Beaker system.
· Entering information into the Pathology report as needed.
· Maintain printers to ensure quality of the barcode.
· Act as a liaison between DHTS and the PRC when needed.
· Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.
Secondary duties
· Receive slide/block material submitted to the PRC for storage
· Fulfil requests for slide/block material
· Return material to file when it's received back
· Courier coverage as needed.
Education Requirements: High School diploma or GED, or equivalent education.
Experience: Two years of related laboratory experience.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Able to listen, read, understand, and perform assigned tasks.
Typing skills and some knowledge of medical terminology.
Minimum Qualifications
Education
High School diploma or GED. For assignment to phlebotomy, completion of a structured phlebotomy training course and clinical rotation is recommended. Minimal educational or experience requirements may be modified on a case-by-case basis at the discretion of the CLIA (Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendment) director if minimal CLIA requirements are met by the employee for the tasks being performed.
Experience
Alternatively, an equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience. Must have at least 2 years experience as a Clin Tech I or Certification as a Phlebotomist plus achieve required competency level for specified job responsibilities.
Degrees, Licensures, Certifications
For assignment to Phlebotomy Services, certification as a Phlebotomist by a nationally recognized board/agency* is required; certification of Basic Life Support preferred. Pediatric Phlebotomy requires Pediatric Phlebotomy Certification. National Healthcare Association (NHA) --Clinical Laboratory Phlebotomy Examination (CLPlb), American Society of Clinical Pathologists-- Phlebotomy Technician Examination [PBT(ASCP)], International Academy of Phlebotomy Sciences (IAPS), National Phlebotomy Association (NPA), American Society of Phlebotomy Technicians (ASPT).
