Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine (GCSOM) invites applications for a faculty position in the Department of Medical Education to contribute to curriculum design, education, and curriculum leadership in the discipline area of Pathology. Faculty candidates with backgrounds in Pathology or other related fields with the ability to teach in this area are encouraged to apply. GCSOM was established through the grassroots efforts of visionary individuals who foresaw what a community-based medical school would bring to the region and worked to make it a reality. We offer an MD program distinctive for its personal education style and its community service component that grounds students in medical education, research issues and healthcare needs of the community. The Curriculum is focused on life-long learning, community engagement, and collaboration. Education is delivered using faculty discipline teams of both basic science and clinical faculty, and GCSOM focuses on these educational values through a commitment to patient-centered learning and personal professional development. GCSOM also provides a strong foundation in research to its students, partnered with our Office of Research and Scholarship. A robust range of research opportunities are offered including: a four-year Medical Research Honors Program, a Summer Research Immersion Program and longitudinal research opportunities on topics ranging from genomic health to primary care.In addition to the MD program, GCSOM offers a Master of Biomedical Sciences to help learners prepare for graduate study in the health sciences, enter a health-related field, or advance in their existing careers; the program has Scranton and Doylestown physical locations as well as an online option.
Job Duties
Serve as a member of the Pathology discipline team and work in collaboration with team members to provide relevant content for courses in the MD program.
Provide instruction/facilitation as part of a multidisciplinary team using our active learning/evidenced based pedagogy in the MD program.
Maintain professional growth and development through seminars, trainings, workshops, the current literature and professional affiliations regarding trends and practices in medical education.
Develop or participate in collaborative scholarship in medical education or related field.
Participate in service to the department, institution, or field of interest.
May serve as a contributing faculty member to GCSOM Master of Biomedical Sciences program.
Work is typically performed in an office environment. Accountable for satisfying all job specific obligations and complying with all organization policies and procedures. Position Details
Qualifications:
Terminal Degree (e.g., Ph.D., MD, DO) with clinical or basic science educational experience
Experience in Pathology education or related field at the level appropriate for medical or graduate education (1-3+ years in education preferred). Candidates with a breadth of experience in pathology and pathophysiology education are preferred.
Experience with active learning/flipped classroom/evidence-based pedagogy (e.g., Case Based Learning, simulation, Team Based Learning)
Demonstrated ability or potential for developing scholarship in medical education or field of interest that comports with academic rank.
