This position supports the departmental purpose by performing evaluations of cellular material for abnormalities, to correlate present materials with past materials and/or material currently under evaluation in other areas of the laboratory, to present evaluations to the Pathologist for final diagnostic evaluations.
Three or more years of experience as a cytotechnologist, including on-site adequacy assessments.
Skills to diagnose accurately, ability to meet State and Federal requirements.
Skills to practice the profession of Cytotechnology.
Ability to evaluate a maximum of 19,200 gynecologic slides, 7,800 non-gynecologic slides per year, when no other duties are required, or proportionally less when other duties are required.
Skills to determine clinic-pathologic correlations
Communication skills sufficient to effectively deal with ward and clinical personnel, clerks, nurses, physicians, laboratory personnel and people outside the hospital in a professional and courteous manner.
Must be able to organize and prioritize workflow to complete tasks in a timely manner, and to function in a capacity to meet established turnaround times.
Ability to identify and work through conflicts, respond to situations with objectivity and fairness.
Decision making and judgment skills adequate to handle situations not covered by written and verbal instructions.
Work Environment/Physical Demands
Must be willing to work variable shifts, take call as needed, and work overtime within UCDMC Policy and Procedure; adhere to no smoking, dress code, tardiness, telephone and safety policies and protocols; work in isolated building occasionally as only employee. Must have visual acuity/color vision to satisfactorily perform routine duties, utilize equipment within each specific section of department.
This position may be subject to a criminal background investigation, drug screen, Live Scan fingerprinting, medical evaluation clearance, and functional capacity assessment.
State of California, Department of Health License to practice Cytotechnology (CLM)Board of Registry, American Society of Clinical Pathologists (or equivalent such as IAC or CMIAC)California State License for Cytotechnology must be current and renewed every other year. Twelve continuing education units are required annually.
